A country with a long list of reasons why you shouldn’t go, from crime and the homicide rate to its location right in the passageway between the drug cartels further south and the consumers up north. Yet a country that you should explore, carefully, at least once. Head for the beaches, where there is world class diving in the second richest marine ecosystem in the world after the Great Barrier Reef and don’t forget the Mayan ruins, practically empty, that dot the north. Poor and rugged, Honduras is awaiting to be discovered once the security situation improves. Until then, only the bravest, or perhaps the most unconscious, will venture out.

The summer of 2003 I spent it in a slum. I slept on the floor, washed with buckets of cold water and lived in the area with the highest murder rate in the world yet in all that danger I fund peace and I learned that the most selfish act is that of giving
